Why do I need to ask for email marketing consent?
Tidio allows you to send all sorts of emails to your leads and website visitors - including marketing emails. While you are able to communicate this way with anyone who simply provides their email address, you should always consider the recipient's consent. Sending marketing materials requires the recipient's permission, and Tidio lets you ask for that permission as well.
In this article, you will learn how to properly ask a user's permission to subscribe to your mailing list.
Any leads you gather in Tidio have an email consent status, and that status can be changed (manually or automatically) from non-subscribed to subscribed.
How can I mark customers as subscribers manually?
When a customer gives their consent during a chat or you prefer to mark them manually, you can do so through the Contacts List:

In case you would like to automate the process, you can use flows to ask customers if they want to become subscribers and then mark them automatically.
The following flow checks if the customer is marked as a subscriber (with the Mailing subscriber condition in the upper-left), and if they are - an email is sent.
In case the customer is detected as not subscribed, they will get the option to choose whether they would like to become subscribed or not:
Making sure that we have the customer's email address before marking them as a subscriber is crucial. We can check whether we already have their email with the Based on Contact Property condition:
If the email property is not detected in this step, the flow uses the Ask a question action to collect the email address:
Once we have the customer's consent and their email address, we can subscribe them (with the Subscribe for Mailing action) and - finally - send them an email:
